How to run a lectio divina group: reminder

We should always bear in mind that whatever else we read in this section there should be three qualities to our lectio divina:

1. Invocation of the Holy Spirit and the belief that it is the Holy Spirit which is at work in lectio divina.

One of the most ancient and well known prayers is the following one which contains all of what is happening during lecto divina:

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful
and enkindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created
and you will renew the face of the earth.

This is important because:

* the Spirit is the one who gives us understanding and wisdom;
* the Spirit turns our hearts of stone into hearts of flesh and makes us able to understand and lights the fire of love within us;
* love is what makes us capable of turning humbly to God;
* the world is changed by the renewing power of God working through those that turn to him.

2. There should be periods of Silence.

3. Responses in the first person singular ("I... " not "We...").
